A word from Isbel

Founder & Owner

I’m Isbel, a fashionista, felinetroverted foodie, and passionate entrepreneur. Throughout my life, I’ve worn many professional hats but nothing has ever ignited my passion quite like Catopolis.

I used to find it hard to understand how people could love animals so deeply. That was until I found myself alone with Satine, the black cat of my daughters. Satine became my emotional support, helping me through some of the toughest years. Sadly, Satine died at the beginning of the pandemic leaving me in painful mourning.

Some time later, I visited a Cat Café in Honolulu, Hawaii. There I had an "aha moment". Upon my return to DC, I began my research into these types of businesses and was fortunate enough to receive training through Empowered Women International (EWI), a program of the Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) to create my business plan and launch my company.

In this way, Satine, our family's first cat, became the heart of our brand. Her memory lives on through Catopolis: a tribute to her and a creative way to channel my grief.

If you're here, you're home, darling! You're part of Catopolis' legion of superheroes - saving the world by helping one cat at a time.

An Online Shop On A Mission

Catopolis, the online shop, was founded as the first step of a very heart warming & hopeful journey to helping as many cats as we can! Let us walk you through our business plan so you understand what our end goal was when we created this online shop!

Step 1 - Finding Funds

The Online Shop

Catopolis, our online store, is a family business led by Latinas, dedicated to promoting and commercializing unique cat-themed products. Highly original and distinctive in design, most of our products are lovingly designed and handcrafted in DC for cat lovers and their furry companions. Our ultimate objective is to create a fund to finance the opening of our very own Cat Café in the near future in our city. Along the way, we are committed to collaborating with institutions and charities that protect and support cats.

Step 2 - Our First Location

The Cat Café

At Catopolis, our mission goes beyond stylish accessories —we’re here to build a thriving community of cat lovers. With the generosity of our incredible customers, we aim to create our very own Cat Café in our city, a space that:

  • Improves the lives of cats through advocacy, support, and care.
  • Promotes community responsibility and awareness about the adoption and well-being of these amazing animals.
  • Highlights the positive impact cats have on human mental health, offering resources and education to deepen this understanding.
  • Celebrates culinary diversity, thanks to our founder’s love of coffee and cooking, we hope your experience will be a warm and delicious one, too.

Step 3 - The Final Goal

The Shelter: A Future Filled with Hope

At Catopolis, we dream of a world where every cat finds love and care, no matter their circumstances. One day, we hope to dedicate most of our resources to building a sanctuary for the overlooked and underappreciated —those cats who are less likely to be adopted due to age, health, or special needs.

Our vision is to create a safe haven where these extraordinary cats can thrive, surrounded by compassion and the care they deserve. Every purchase you make brings us one step closer to turning this dream into reality. Together, we can make a purr-fect difference!

  • Small Business

Catopolis is more than a store —it’s a celebration of our shared love for cats and a commitment to their well-being. Through our store, we offer a curated selection of modern and vintage-inspired products that honor the unique charm of cats.

Our collections feature creations from talented local women artists who share our passion for these incredible creatures. Most of our products are designed and handmade in DC.

  • Minority Owned

Catopolis, our online store, is a family business led by Latinas. Here's our team:

Isbel Alba Duarte- Founder, Owner and Maker
    Margarita Duarte- Assistant and Maker
Sparx Multimedia- Image design and Internet Marketing consulting.

  • With Cats at Heart

At Catopolis we have a socially responsible mission. A portion of the proceeds from our sales go to support organizations that protect and care for cats, as well as fund the creation of our very own Cat Café. We partner with TNR activists, foster parents, and shelters to improve the quality of life for our beloved cats and help increase adoption opportunities.
